I visited Gangdong IKEA for the first time with my 40-month-old daughter. As Seoul’s first IKEA store that opened on April 17, 2025, my expectations were high. I discovered the perfect full-day itinerary that will completely tire out the kids, so I’m sharing it with you.

Getting from Seoul to Gangdong IKEA by Car

The drive from central Seoul to Gangdong IKEA takes about 30-40 minutes. The accessibility is excellent with Gangdong Godeok IC right nearby, where Olympic-daero and Sejong-Pocheon Expressway intersect. Just enter ’51 Godeok Biz Valley-ro, Gangdong-gu, Seoul’ into your GPS.

By subway, it’s about a 20-minute walk from Godeok Station (Line 5) Exit 3, so I’d recommend driving if you’re traveling with kids.

IKEA Gangdong Shopping Experience

Store hours are daily 10 AM to 10 PM, giving you plenty of time to browse leisurely. It also features the largest cafe space among all IKEA stores in Korea, which was definitely appealing.

My 40-month-old daughter was absolutely fascinated following IKEA’s signature pathway through the bedroom and living room displays. She couldn’t tear herself away from the children’s room section especially. The toddler beds and desks were displayed in actual size, so she could sit on them and touch everything herself.

The Swedish Restaurant operates Monday through Sunday 10 AM to 9 PM, but there’s usually a long wait during lunch hours. We just grabbed some snacks along with coffee we had picked up earlier.

Cracking Coffee: French Toast Heaven

After IKEA shopping, we headed to **Cracking Coffee** (51 Godeok Biz Valley-ro, 4th floor, Gangdong-gu, Seoul). It’s positioned as a brunch cafe with their signature Cracking Toast, which is a French toast.

Cracking Coffee's French toast and iced americano, chocolate chip toast served with powdered sugar and whipped cream syrup

The French toast was absolutely delicious. Crispy on the outside and moist on the inside, with chocolate chips that my 40-month-old loved immediately. It comes with whipped cream and maple syrup, but the sweetness was perfectly balanced and not overwhelming for adults either.

They also have unique drinks like Cracking Signature Latte, Cracking Caramel, and Mint Mojito Latte. I ordered an iced americano, which had a rich coffee aroma with just the right amount of acidity.

I recommend checking their latest hours on Google Maps or Yelp. Their seasonal menu changes, so it’s worth checking their official social media before visiting.

iPark River Mall Outdoor Playground: Perfect Energy Burn

After the cafe, we moved to the outdoor space at **Gangdong iPark The River Mall**. The 4th floor features a magnificent rooftop garden with natural elements.

The modern outdoor terrace with circular arch sculptures and shallow water features was absolutely beautiful. My 40-month-old daughter sat by the water’s edge and played for ages, touching the water with her hands. The view over the Han River and mountains through the glass railings was spectacular too.
