While looking for a place near Seoul where I could enjoy nature with my child, I discovered Hanbat Farm Nursery Market in Uiwang. Since it’s on the way to Baekun Lake, it seemed perfect for a weekend family outing.
Getting to Uiwang Hanbat Farm from Seoul
It took about 40 minutes from Gangnam in Seoul. You can take either the Gyeongbu Expressway or the Gwacheon-Bongdam Expressway – we chose the latter. Just enter “456 Anyang Pangyo-ro, Uiwang-si, Gyeonggi Province” into your GPS for precise directions.
When we arrived, the farm was larger than I expected. Multiple large greenhouses lined up in rows, with various seedlings neatly organized throughout the farm. Parking was convenient with plenty of space near the farm entrance.
What is Hanbat Farm Like?
Hanbat Farm is a well-established nursery specializing in seedlings. They don’t just sell plants – they also offer garden plot rental services, helping city folks experience farming firsthand.
What I loved most was the incredible variety. From basic vegetables like lettuce, cabbage, and broccoli to various herbs – they had everything. Plus, you can buy just the small quantities you need, which was perfect for a beginner like me who wants to start a balcony garden.
Exploring the Farm with My Child
My 4-year-old daughter was thrilled as soon as we arrived at the farm. The large greenhouses and lush green seedlings she’d never seen before fascinated her. The farm owner was very welcoming to children exploring, which made our visit even more comfortable.
Inside the greenhouses, young seedlings were beautifully arranged in blue plastic containers. My daughter examined each seedling with curious eyes, repeatedly asking “What’s this?” about everything she saw.
She was particularly intrigued by the wrinkled leaves of the brassica vegetable seedlings, touching them and asking, “Mom, why are these leaves so bumpy?” It became a living nature classroom for her. These sights are hard to come by in the city, making it an excellent educational experience for children.
Purchasing Seedlings and Wrapping Up Our Farm Experience
We purchased some lettuce seedlings and cherry tomato plants. The prices were reasonable and not burdensome at all. The owner kindly explained how to care for them, which was incredibly helpful for a gardening novice like me.
